In this case, it would’ve been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that’s not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage. Or that – as great as her friends may be – we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home. Ideally, fathers help shape their kids’ worldview.

In this situation, it was the other way around. I guess we can be glad that Malia and Sasha aren’t younger, or perhaps today’s press conference might have been about appointing Dora the Explorer as Attorney General because of her success in stopping Swiper the Fox.

I question whether she was using intentionally murky language because she is a very prominent, extremely well-paid abstinence speaker and not having willingly had sex could bolster her position and reduce criticisms from those who consider her a hypocrite…. But it could also be that a young woman from a very conservative family that traffics in circles that regularly deny that date rape exists would have a hard time naming it. We don’t know. It could be that she doesn’t even know.

When the school year ended in Juneau, Bristol returns to her hometown of Wasilla in the summer of 2007, and immediately reconnects with Levi. He treats her like a princess and showers her with gifts, including “Coach purses, nice rings, Abercrombie clothes, as well as Coach and Juicy rain boots.” (Pg. 77) The two have sex again that summer, since she felt Levi had needs and, “If I wasn’t going to fill them, I feared he’d go back to his old ways.” The couple uses condoms. When summer ends, Bristol convinces her parents to let her stay in Wasilla, and despite Levi’s unfaithfulness—she witnesses his jacket on another girl—and is soon prescribed birth control, which “meant Levi and I could stop using condoms, and I could make sure I wouldn’t get pregnant.” (Pg. 85)

I’d been a brace face for years. My parents diligently took me to the orthodontist week after week to get my elastics changed—yes, I was that girl who sported festive seasonal colors. When my doctor suddenly retired, though, I was left with a massive overbite. When I smiled, you could see several centimeters of my gums. I once got a gum sunburn. That peeled.

Bristol Palin no longer has a baby face after undergoing “corrective jaw surgery,” which she claims was necessary for medical reasons. Not plastic surgery, people. Absolutely not plastic surgery.

Everything about her and her celebrity telegraphs the message, already distressingly prevalent in this country, that pregnancy offers a way to trade boring high school anonymity for attention and adoration.

Bristol Palin Offered Radio Show

A Phoenix radio station said it’s offered Bristol Palin a job alongside its morning host. Clear Channel’s Mix 96.9 said they extended an official offer on-air, but station program director Ron Prince denied the offer was either politically motivated or a publicity stunt. “It is an official offer to a very well-known personality, who may be looking for a new career in what will most likely be her new home state,” Price said. Morning radio host Mathew Blades (a known optimist, we hope for the sake of this being hilarious?) said he thought the contrast between his and Bristol’s “outlook on life” would make for an interesting show.
