Pinterest, Instagram Knocked Out, Daily Beast Experiences Delays.

A Washington, D.C.-area storm that left more than a million people without electricity on Saturday also kept customers from documenting their powerless woes in sepia tones. According to Forbes, the severe thunderstorms that whipped around the nation’s capital tearing out power lines also took down a major Amazon cloud computing location in North Virginia. The popular photo-sharing service Instagram temporarily went down, as did Pinterest and Netflix. The Daily Beast also experienced difficulties on Saturday morning due to damage caused by the storm, and was working to restore updates to its homepage as of 10am.

In the first Occupy Wall Street protest trial, video from a livestream is used as evidence against the police’s side of the story, leading to an acquittal of the arrested journalist, Alexander Arbuckle. (“The relevant section in the video above begins around minute 31:50 and ends with the arrests around minute 35:00.”)

As your Tumblr quoted a protester in October, the livestream is “our greatest weapon for letting people see things as they develop.”

TechCrunch’s history since AOL bought it in 2010 has been as turbulent as the private roller coasters many Facebook employees will likely install in their Silicon Valley mansions post-IPO.

Gawker’s Adrian Chen • Commenting on AOL’s reported plans to sell TechCrunch, Engadget and most of its other tech-related properties in a single package. One amazing line really says it all. (via shortformblog)

“Because sometimes things happen to people and they’re not equipped to deal with them.”

Not suprisingly, the Hunger Games trilogy accounts for eight of the top 10 most-highlighted Kindle passages. Which begs the question: Readers are taking theHunger Games so seriously that they’re highlighting passages using Kindle?
